ABSTRACT

A pregnant Demi Moore feverishly races to intercede in the chaotic events leading to the destruction of the world. A stolid Clint Eastwood emerges from snow-capped mountains, as the Pale Rider, to bring death and destruction to the forces of evil so the righteous might live in peace. Each of these situations represents a recent cinematic interest in the apocalyptic drama and in apocalyptic themes. The western, as film type, is perhaps the best place to begin with such an investigation, for most westerns present the apocalyptic conflict between good and evil. The larger company intends to drive the community from its land claim and take over the canyon for its own use. In Apocalypse Now, character development and the journey of a hero are important, as they are in the westerns and the science-fiction films in question. However, this film provides another element, which makes it more effective in presenting the horror of the apocalyptic drama.
