Revolutionary Multiculturalism is not only illuminating in that it sheds important light on the ideological mechanisms that shape and maintain racist social order, it painstakingly moves the discussion of multiculturalism beyond the reductionistic binarism of White vs. Black debate. Pedagogies of Dissent for the New Millennium by capturing the ambivalence of our fractured cultural soul yearning to make meaning out of a bittersweet existence in a racist society. In denouncing the horrors of oppression, Peter McLaren's skillfully unveils the drama of multiculturalism, which often forces us to live in a borrowed cultural existence—an existence that is almost culturally schizophrenic. Revolutionary Multiculturalism is infused by a pedagogy of hope that is informed by tolerance, respect, and solidarity. Peter McLaren's work avoids the fragmentation of ethnic and racial realities that are part of the social organization and knowledge defined along disciplinary boundaries.
