ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book concentrates on nation-states and emphasized economic globalization as it influences Mexico. It presents results of cluster analyses examining developmental levels in the world's nation-states, states of Mexico, municipios, and within Mexico City. The book notes that variables for the nation-state cluster analysis were selected on the basis of past development and world system research. It explores development of the in-bond or maquiladora industry along the US - Mexico border. World system theory makes the assumption that there is a hierarchy of nations; the authors' made art additional supposition that the perspective also could be applied to states within Mexico. The basic postulate of this analysis is that within Mexico there are different developmental levels. Mexico's acceptance of foreign direct investment (FDI) has increased. The magnitude of exports from and imports to Mexico has changed considerably over the years.
