ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the results of cluster analyses the authors carried out examining developmental levels of the world's nation-states. It introduces cluster analyses for the States of Mexico and for the Mexico City metropolitan area, which the authors sometimes refer to as Mexico Megacity. The chapter argues that the authors perspective applies at all levels and can be generalized to other nations and areas within nations. It presents only minimal historical information from that available illustrating transnational corporate penetration into Mexico. The chapter explains that similar analyses should be carried out -within nations - in this case study instance, for the States of Mexico and within cities of that nation. A longitudinal analysis of Mexico's developmental level also undoubtedly would have shown Mexico in a lower level of development at earlier dates. The chapter demonstrates that Mexico's network associations are heightened with the US since that relationship is substantially stronger than with any other nation.
