ABSTRACT

Qiron Adhikary is a Southeast Asian writer of South Asian descent who currently lives in the United States. Unashamedly feminist, Qiron grew up with no fear of the rotan despite a childhood spent in strict Singapore. Born in Allahabad, India, on February 17, 1951, Meena Alexander has lived and studied in the Sudan, England, and India. One of the leading Indian poets writing in English as well as one of the most important South Asian American writers, she is also an essayist and a novelist. Agha Shahid Ali, considered one of the most important and influential American poets of South Asian descent, was born in New Delhi on February 4, 1954, and was raised in Kashmir. G. S. Sharat Chandra was born in May 1938 in the village of Nanjangud in Mysore, India. Educated as a lawyer, he left India in 1963 and abandoned his legal career in 1966.
