ABSTRACT

This chapter presents checklist as a means of assisting students in analyzing right-wing groups along the spectrum from conservatives to racial supremacists to neofascists. Students have to learn how to go about making observations from the standpoint of a detached social scientist. People tend to react emotionally to right-wing groups—to ridicule them and pull away in revulsion. The far-right agrees on the need for fundamental social structural changes. No apparent consensus exists with regard to aggressive armed struggle as the means for revolutionary change and the overthrow of the existing US government. There does seem to be a variety of strategic visions, including an impending apocalypse that will take the form of a nuclear war or a race war and a vision of building a secessionist movement that will carve out ethnic pockets for the people of the United States.
