ABSTRACT

Women and men who work apart from most others in their own gender find thatthe work setting provides a unique opportunity to experience, and at times suffer with, the same larger gender issues that confront them away from work. For the groundbreaking women and men who cross female-and male-dominated occupational lines, employment becomes more than paid labor. It provides an opportunity to test the role reversal of genders in work. However, for women who enter male fields, the road to promotion and acceptance is quite unlike a man's experience there, and often much less positive.
