ABSTRACT
Internet sites will be categorized under four headings: corporate media, education, government, and private. A visit to the Internet pages of CNN, Time, tine Los Angeles Times, or CBS News shows that fairly traditional news models exist on the web. Audio and video streaming software allowed traditional broadcasters and new players to place signals on the Internet. The earliest users of the Internet were people at American universities who had access to it before the general public did. Universities across the globe have jumped on the Internet bandwagon. The Internet was built as a government infrastructure project, the national powers have tended to step back and allow marketplace forces to develop it. Anyone with a personal computer may create Internet pages in a matter of minutes, which may be the most fundamental difference of the web era. The Internet continues to develop as a source of information beyond the range of traditional mass media.
