ABSTRACT

Om Prakash must have been about fourteen when his father died. His mother never remarried, and (as often happens in such situations), her six sons were denied the full fruits of their father’s land. Thus, when Omvati was married to Om Prakash in the early 1970s, his financial situation was less secure than it might otherwise have been. For several years, they coped moderately well. But there was no margin for the disruptions that illness might cause.
