ABSTRACT

New York is a veritable cauldron of differences; thus, it faces some difficult challenges in the years ahead as the state tries where necessary to reconcile and implement policies derived from concepts such as civil rights, human rights, affirmative action, equal opportunity, desegregation, and now, diversity. As in other parts of the country, the road from civil rights to valuing diversity has been long and sometimes very difficult to travel in New York. The program, which is being produced by psychologist and diversity consultant, Dr. Anna Duran, is designed for executives and managers who are faced with increasing cultural diversity in their organizations and it will examine the best methods for incorporating approaches to cultural diversity into routine management activities. Regretfully, New York state, like almost every other state, provides too few seminars, workshops, lectures, or experientially-based training and educational programs focusing on cultural diversity for its managers and executives.
