ABSTRACT
An unfolding is called elementary if it is a versal unfolding of a germ whose codimension is at most 4. This notion of an elementary unfolding also includes unfoldings of germs for which the origin is not critical. Such unfoldings are automatically versal (see Exercise 7.12).
