ABSTRACT
Amrita Pritam is one of the most prolific and best-known Indian writers of the twentieth century. She began to publish in the 1930s and her poetry, short stories, novels, and novellas have been translated into nearly all the major languages of India and Europe. She was the first woman to win India's prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award for Literature in 1956.
