ABSTRACT

T h e celebrated gay culture o f the late 1 9 6 0 s and 1 9 7 0 s is g o n e , ecl ipsed by a so-cal led mora l majori ty that determinedly acts o n its a g e n d a to have gays , w h o are already opp re s sed , pun i shed further. In s o m e bizarre way, A I D S is a victory o f A n g l o culture over mult icul tural ism, at least as far as gays are con­ cerned. F o r o n c e , we were l iv ing-dancing , as it we re-and we were happy. N o w , we are dy ing , in par t because o f this carefree a b a n d o n m e n t . I t is this shock and hostility that makes our wor ld , which was taken for g ran ted , sud­ denly suspect and leads to ques t ion ing anew the nature o f g o d and o rgan ized rel igion, and their relat ionship to bo th the state and society.
