ABSTRACT

Fulfilling these needs fundamental ly shifted the focus o f G M H C away from direct political activity. Today , hundreds o f newly recrui ted volunteers help o u t as budd ies (direct care providers) and crisis counse lors . While these two activities const i tute G M H C ' s pr imary carepar tner ing effort for PWAs, they also serve to in t roduce the volunteer personal ly to the wor ld o f c o m p o u n d e d h u m a n suffering. Working in t andem with PWA care are G M H C ' s other ma­ jor p r o g r a m s in advocacy and p r e v e n t i o n / e d u c a t i o n .
