Thom Class and Lefschetz Fixed Point Theorem

Let X be an orientable n-manifold without boundary. We construct a cohomology class μ ∈ Hⁿ (X × X, X × X – Δ) called the Thom class. This class has intimate connections with the fundamental class ζ and is used to construct an inverse to the Poincaré duality isomorphism.
