ABSTRACT
People moving to the Great Plains of the American Midwest may find the place a last frontier: a place one reach coming back from the vibrant ocean fronts, a place to be rediscovered and settled, a place to relax and stay, the Heartland of America. One of the key positions adopted by Antelope Commons' design and development team was a respect for the vulnerability of the adjacent farmland and rural living conditions. The main objective of the project, the need to provide community-oriented living conditions integrated with local ecological features and circumstances, was developed to respond to the special location of the site. The project proposes to address this concern by establishing a clear boundary between metropolitan development and its rural context. The design team believed that the border should be clear, coherent and poignantly expressed in terms of its urban content and form, yet friendly, in its performance and appearance, to its rural vicinity.
