ABSTRACT

In most studies, the researchers take entitlement to apply their analyses and perspectives to data. Once the "subject" gives permission for her story to be used, typically she relinquishes all control over that story. At best, the actual research subjects, or "participants" as we prefer to call the contributors to our book, receive a copy of the article or book. Their reactions, evaluations, and feelings about the "data" and how it has been presented virtually never impact the finished product. Feedback and criticism usually come only from professional colleagues.
