ABSTRACT
The war in the Persian Gulf was cast as a global confrontation between humanity and bestiality, a battle between civilization and barbarism. This was a war to defend the principles of modernity and reason against the forces of darkness. It was in this cause that the smart weapons of the West meted out what was projected as a moral kind of violence. In this cause, the angels became exterminators. In this just war against this new evil empire, all kinds of advanced weapons would be enlisted. As Franco Moretti argued, the story of Frankenstein's monster is about a two-sided process in which formation entails deformation, in which civilization carries barbarism within itself. In this process, science and rationality contain the possibility of destructive violence. Nevertheless, the crisis escalated so as to ensure that future for Shamir by sealing the future of Iraq.
