ABSTRACT

In order to check the physical consistency of the above set of equations governing Maxwell-Lorentz electrodynamics, we examine the action of, and reaction on, the sources of the electromagnetic fields. To be precise, we ask whether there is a correct balance in the exchange of energy, momentum, and angular momentum between the charged particles and the electromagnetic fields. The Maxwell-Lorentz system as it stands implies the conservation of these mechanical properties, no matter how rapidly the charges are moving.
