ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the fun-seeking boys indicating the scale of the problem they presented for their teachers. A presentation of their school philosophy will follow, outlining their academic ability and relating their behaviour to their goals. The chapter explores the thinking of the deviant pupils in the mainstream and tries to provide an understanding for their actions. The two genders were examined separately, but it has been shown that they shared similar views and operated with a double set of goals in mind. They were concerned with the quality of their daily life in school and aspired to an enjoyable time with their friends. The girls and the boys of each group, Q, O, Q-O A and Q-O B, exhibited broadly the same school attitude, and their views not being very different. The differences observed were mainly located in classroom behaviour apparent during the extensive observation carried out in Burleigh High.
