ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the relationship between visual artists, and the cultural, political, and social influences that impacted their creative work. We explore the various facets of visual arts practices, including researching influences on their work, methodologies of production, cultural and critical thinking relevant to informing their practice, and reflecting on these experiences to inform their next body of visual artwork. Creative process/es such as these help students make the case that they are engaged in artistic endeavors that express ideas and propose questions through art, rather than follow processes that are simply the hallmark of craftsmen learning a trade.
