ABSTRACT

The purpose of the methodology chapter is to provide a framework for research and to justify the research design. It needs to demonstrate a deep knowledge of the chosen research methods and that these are appropriate. The organisation of the methodology chapter focuses on participants, procedure and methods of data collection and analysis. Chapter 11 includes some examples of chapter organisation and some examples of dissertation sections describing participant recruitment. It is in this chapter that the writer should demonstrate the reliability and validity of the study and that the data has been collected ethically with informed consent. As with the previous chapter this chapter provides a useful table identifying the characteristics of high scoring and low scoring methodology chapters.
