ABSTRACT

Chapter 8 examines the analysis of data in a master’s project. The chapter considers analysis in both quantitative and qualitative designs. It highlights the need to keep a research diary and provides an example of a research diary. How data is organised is very important and organisational methods are presented. Central to the chapter is the staging of the analysis, from gathering data to the final stages of analysis. In quantitative designs typical types of analyses on master’s projects are t-tests, ANOVA, regression, correlation, chi-square and their non-parametric equivalents. In qualitative designs, transcription, coding and data display are considered.
