ABSTRACT

The aims, purpose(s) and content of physical education change over time and are different in different contexts (Lawson, 2018; Penney et al., 2018; Whitehead, 2013). Sometimes there has been considerable change, but generally there has been evolution of the subject (Green, Cale and Harris, 2018; Kirk, 2010; Lawson, 2018; Whitehead, 2013). This chapter focuses on one aspect of a possible future evolution of the subject in England so that physical education can progress the learning of all children and young people in the twenty-first century. That aspect is what we have called a joined-up approach.
