ABSTRACT

Ethics draws on different traditions of moral thought each based on different philosophical and anthropological grounds. Ethics, or moral philosophy, has been further influenced by later Latin discussions of ethics. In order to face the ethical challenges that arise in the new media landscape, it is important to challenge the enduring convictions that support journalism ethics. In the case of photojournalism and its ethics, the same requirements are present, as it would be impossible to understand and eventually challenge professional moral principles without at the same time assessing the conditions of practice and discussing what aims and ends are to be considered good. The obligation to inform a public, on the one hand, and to respect the privacy of those affected by the news, on the other, constitute a typical example of this sort of ethical dilemma faced by journalists.
