ABSTRACT

The curriculum can offer the possibilities for learners and teachers to be the makers of such networks. In enabling the learner to become maker it sometimes requires a loosening of subject barriers. The medley of psychologist reports, lists of day-to-day incidents, letters home to parents and teachers' comments which accompanied her, evidenced behaviour which was violently aggressive and all seemed to be the result of her adverse reactions to the authority structure of the school. The following extracts from the teacher's journal illustrates in more graphic detail the parental conflict experienced by Katrina. Much of Katrina's bad behaviour then, was to be tolerated in the knowledge that any upset affected her mother's physical condition. The complexities of relationships occupied much space in Katrina's writing, but this piece marks a point of growth in the fact that she realizes the importance of trust.
