ABSTRACT

A mild hybrid electric drivetrain does not require high-power energy storage due to the small power rating of the electric motor. A 42-V electrical system may be able to meet the requirements. Other subsystems of the conventional vehicle, such as engine, transmission (gearbox), and brake, do not require many changes. This chapter introduces two typical configurations of mild hybrid drivetrains. Their control and parametric design are explained along with a design example.
