ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 explores strategies for engaging harmonizers in concrete environmental activism. Because harmonizers accept mainstream environmental conclusions, the strategies for addressing harmonizers focus on turning belief into motivated action. These strategies engage the harmonizers’ worldview by shifting from private to public activism, communicating urgency, and encouraging harmonizers to think globally. Instead of trying to shift, reframe, or reimagine values (as we do with separators and bargainers), the harmonizers are encouraged to envision themselves as powerful agents capable of enacting change, motivated by their faith and their belief in the current environmental crisis.
