ABSTRACT

This chapter is organised under the thematic header: ‘Tokenism’, the second core theme associated with ‘the boys club’, in which I frame women’s struggle with ruling-middle class hegemonic masculinity. A token woman occurs, when a woman is put into a position to give the appearance of gender equity, which does not necessarily exist (Yoder and Aniakudo 1997; Terjesen et al. 2009; Gheaus 2015; Irvine 2017). Sourcing my interviews, I articulate women’s experience as token members on environmental panels along with their resistance to such labelling. Arguably, emphasized femininity, is the key resistance to patriarchal-framed tokenism, whilst empowering women’s agency.
