ABSTRACT

This chapter draws together the key theoretical and empirical findings of the study. The chapter highlights the study’s key theoretical findings and the associated role that Hamas’s national liberation agenda has on driving various shifts in its political behaviour. The chapter discusses the role and efficacy of Hamas’s dual resistance strategy as both a governing mechanism and a strategy to drive Palestinian statehood efforts. The chapter also highlights how Hamas has made measurable shifts in its political behaviour at the behavioural and ideological levels. Finally, the chapter highlights the role that the Palestinian public plays in providing the impetus for, and limits on, Hamas’s political participation and subsequent shifts in its political behaviour.
