ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters in this book. The book address the lacuna in feminist literature by concentrating on the intriguing and fascinating intersections between women's historic-socio-cultural contexts and their head hair within a feminist framework. It discusses a feminist premise and thus political in its core and intention. The book consists of three sections that comprise a dozen chapters. These chapters are grounded in a feminist perspective and voice critical interrogations of various aspects of women's head hair's significance from a wide range of theoretical and methodological standpoints. The book illuminates how relative gender equity allowed for red-headed girls reconfirms and reinforces the stereotyped presentation of girls in popular culture. It describes an analysis of public discourse surrounding grey hair, using user-generated content collected from two social media platforms.
