Introduction

A strong feminist movement in Mexico in the 1970s facilitated the conception of the oldest feminist journal in Mexico and Latin America, FEM. However, no feminist theory particular to Latin America has germinated that can analyze the social movements and women’s struggle for equal rights particular to Mexico. Instead, different theories from Europe and the United States have been utilized to explain the continent’s oppressive structures against women.
