ABSTRACT

This chapter includes three ten-minute error detection activities to be included as a part of an aural skills instructor’s daily lesson plan. Each activity outlines the learning objective, the specific error it focuses on, and how to execute it in the classroom, including suggestions for customization. These exercises incorporate multiple textures and timbres and use music from the folk and ensemble repertoires to aid students in making the connection between what they are learning in the classroom and its application to their lives as musicians. Practicing error detection will help students prepare for their future careers as performers, conductors, and educators.
