ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book designs as a practical guide for counselors, psychologists and other mental health professionals. It provides effective counseling and psychotherapy to adults diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The book dedicates to helping clinicians learn effective techniques designed to treat the primary symptoms of autism. It highlights evidence-based practices on how to effectively and comprehensively approach, assess, and treat adults with ASD. The book aims to create the personal background is to demonstrate to the counseling community that working with this population is indeed within the scope of practice when we are provided with the appropriate tools and training. It is essential to enter the worlds of other mental health professionals including exceptional student education, behavior analysis, and clinical psychology in which individuals with ASD have historically had a place either in the classroom or a treatment setting.
