ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 looks at some of the research investigating the effects of mobile digital technology and multi-tasking behaviors and their impact on the attention spans and emotional lives of student-aged populations and heavy-users of technology. The main exercise introduced in this chapter is the Focused Attention Meditation (FAM) on the Breath which is a basic meditation form that is widely used around the world. Once the general instructions have been laid out in a guided format (often narrated by a leader or through audio recordings), we also explore adding a counting or labeling variation to this fundamental meditation exercise.
