ABSTRACT

The marketplace of TV development, like any marketplace, consists of buyers and sellers. The buyers of TV development are the networks that distribute content, and the sellers are the studios, producers and agents that make and broker it. The first priority of sellers is to create new projects to sell. Their second priority is to figure out to which buyers to sell their projects. This chapter explores the many ways in which sellers assess the market of buyers of TV development, focusing on the four main categories of TV networks today: broadcast networks, basic cable (and satellite) channels, premium cable channels and online video distribution companies, popularly referred to as streamers.
