ABSTRACT

The business goal of a pilot script is to get the project ordered to pilot production and to provide the blueprint for a pilot that gets ordered to series. The creative goals are a bit more complex. The short version is, “To be great.” What does that mean? The specific creative goals of a pilot script are to make the reader (and ultimately the viewer) fall in love with the lead characters and want to know what happens to them in the next episode, to tell a great story and to dramatize the concept of the series, to prove the concept of the series so the network executives with greenlight power can see the series will work.
