ABSTRACT

We have included ten additional cases for you to reflect upon as you think about Inclusive Supervision in practice. We have again provided discussion questions at the conclusion of each case study, however in contrast to the previous cases within Chapter 9, we have intentionally omitted identifying a particular tenet (Creating Safe Spaces, Cultivating Holistic Development, Demonstrating Vulnerability, and Building Capacity in Others) of Inclusive Supervision that might be in focus. While some cases may have a specific slant toward one of the tenets, we think you will find aspects of several tenets – and perhaps all tenets – embedded within each case. Likewise, we do not provide our exposition as we did with the cases in Part I. Therefore, we encourage you to utilize the approach we propose below:

Read each case in its entirety

Identify the characters identified within each case

a.What do you know about them? What information is readily provided that informs your understanding of their worldview?

Identify the presenting issues

a.What presenting issues are at play?

b.What issues might exist that are perhaps more nuanced?

Identify what is missing

a.What would be helpful for you to know (e.g. about the institution, an individual) that may not have been provided in the case? Why? Consider how this additional information would inform your response

Identify the tenets of Inclusive Supervision

a.What tenets of Inclusive Supervision are addressed in the case? What tenets of Inclusive Supervision are not addressed in the case? How do you know?

b.What specific inclusive supervisory actions were identified or absent from the case?

c.How could the presence of a particular tenet improve the outcome of this case?

Read the reflection questions at the end of each case

Go back and re-read the case in its entirety

Formulate a proposed resolution to the case

a.How might you respond as the supervisor in each case?

b.How might you respond as the supervisee in each case?
