ABSTRACT

Foundational Storyboarding is a way of working directly with a foundational story, drawing it scene by scene in much the same manner as a movie director might work with a script, drawing and writing it scene by scene. Actually drawing the memory scenes has advantages over imagery in that both the client and the therapist can see the story. The client then proceeds to storyboard the incident, one page per scene, beginning just before the occurrence and ending with a scene in which the story has ended. If the client cannot think of a different moral, there are two possibilities for proceeding. One is for the clinician to intuit what the client could have gained from the story, and incorporate that into the next phase of the procedure. The next phase of the procedure involves telling the story back to the client. It is incredibly captivating to be told one’s own story.
