ABSTRACT

The Foundational Story Interview is a template for collecting story vignettes in psychotherapy. There have been a number of client history questionnaires that either include, or to some extent focus on, collecting stories. Family of Origin Mapping is a method of diagramming and analyzing the impact of one’s early family context upon one’s life and orientation in the world. It includes most of the factors deemed important by various theorists, and is laid out in a manner that allows the client to recognize patterns and to synthesize many of the results. All families, all organizations, and all stories have an emotional atmosphere or climate. A family may feel stifling; or it may feel frenetic and chaotic; or light and upbeat; or any of a myriad of other descriptions.
