ABSTRACT

Tools and methods traditionally associated with Agile support the Lean information technology (IT) transformation, and they can be used in all parts of IT organizations. “Lean is for Operations/Infrastructure, Agile is for Application Development.” Emphasizing the differences within an IT organization seems to be the automatic primary response to any proposed change. “Management takes a back seat because it’s all about autonomous teams.” The rise of Develops has brought the term autonomous teams to prominence. It is very important to realize that autonomous teams are something that may be achieved as a result of the Lean IT transformation. In a broad sense, the guidance for the overall transformation comes from the top and improvement initiatives tend to be driven from the teams, i.e. bottom-up. Both lead to a combined and coordinated drive to improve the quality and performance of the IT organization.
