ABSTRACT

Transforming the information technology (IT) organization into a Lean IT organization is not easy. It requires changing multiple aspects: the way the IT organization interacts with the customer, the way processes work, the way performance is measured and steered, the way the IT organization is organized and, most importantly, the change in behavior and attitude of everyone involved. At an organizational level, there are essentially three phases for the transformation: the Leadership transformation, Team transformation and Continuous Improvement. At this point, it is useful to have a high-level insight into each of the phases. The role of Lean IT coach is not the easiest of roles since it requires people who are prepared to give feedback to management on how they are doing with their own Lean development. Since the environment, often, has to evolve to one in which people can freely speak their minds, the role of Lean IT coach can feel risky for the person fulfilling the role.
