Suppose someone is walking along the aisle of an airplane toward the cockpit. The airplane travels at 250 m/s relative to the ground. From the airplane’s frame of reference, the person’s speed is 1.0 m/s. To an observer on the ground, the person’s speed is 250 + 1 = 251 m/s.
