ABSTRACT

In this Introduction, Afolayan provides a brief outline of the argument for the placement of Nigerian philosophy, and why it is an urgent necessity within the context of the development condition of postcolonial Nigeria. The placement of Nigerian philosophy speaks to the circumstances and situation that have conditioned the evolution of philosophy in Nigeria since it became an academic discipline in 1973, and how Nigerian philosophers have reacted to these conditions and circumstances, or fail to. The Introduction also articulates a brief chapter-by-chapter analysis of the book in a way that produces a coherent link to the arguments in the book.
