ABSTRACT

The security department is a business unit, the same as finance, sales, marketing, design, engineering, logistics, retail, and R&D. Each business unit will have its own unique goals and objectives, but what they all should share is the need to contribute, successfully, to the goals and objectives of the organization as a whole. There are lots of articles, seminars, books, and consultants who talk about corporate culture. What that comes down to is a corporate ecosystem that all the constituents live and operate in. The success of a security program, or any department that’s trying to affect compliance or a change in behavior, is alignment – from the top to the bottom of an organization. Many security leaders have said that they’re business people first, security people second. The security department should, as best they can, align their goals and objectives with those of the business.
