ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the life and career of Dilip Kumar Roy. It highlights aspects that intersect with the life and works of Sri Aurobindo. The method here will be that of a narrative history of the conventional kind. 'The perception of Sri Aurobindo on contemporary political events was quite different from the perception of Subhas Chandra Bose as a politician during a crucial period of Indian history'. His entire early life and career appear to have been a preparatory ground for meeting Sri Aurobindo, his later life a mission to promote the Aurobindonean vision that was evolutionary in character. Sri Aurobindo and the Mother loved Dilip deeply, and later also his companion, Indira Devi. For Dilip and music always went hand-in-hand. Every Saturday, with the Mother's permission, there was organized a musical soiree in Dilip's house. He travelled to Calcutta for raising funds for the Ashram, and upon return to Pondicherry, devoted himself to music and the arts.
