ABSTRACT
Medicine and healthcare delivery in the USA is in a sick, chaotic, backward state today primarily because in the past either science was not used or if used it was mostly bad science. Interestingly, other entities in society go bankrupt if they use the outdated processes and procedures that healthcare delivery embraces. With the advent of the scientific method came major improvements to treatments and, more recently, a vast improvement to medicine was evidence-based medicine. Blood pressure drugs are particularly prone to this type of scientific error, as the genetic basis of high blood pressure is complex, probably involving many diverse groupings of genes. Snake oil sellers, determining one’s personality and mental ability based on bumps on one’s head, conducting bloodletting to cure diseases to adjust the humors, operating in unsterile conditions, examining urine for signs of imbalances—such things belong in the horrors of history.
