ABSTRACT

Chapter 1 examined the state of medical care—past problems and present problems. One huge problem with current healthcare is the COST! It turns out that the United States spends much more of its gross domestic product (GDP) on healthcare than other countries. To visualize this, please see Figure 2.1, which uses data from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Note that the United States spends nearly 18% of its GDP, whereas, for example, the United Kingdom spends less than 10% of its GDP.32 Graph from 2017 data from OECD released in 2018.
