114We hope that by now you have gained a deeper understanding of the opportunities and challenges faced by incumbent biopharmaceutical manufacturers as they address an unprecedented magnitude and rate of change across the healthcare ecosystem. As industry insiders, our effort has been to offer insights into how the industry has demonstrated success in serving as a beacon of innovation that most other industries can only dream about. This unwavering commitment to continuous innovation in the discovery and development of new biopharmaceutical products coupled with some unique legal and regulatory conditions gave rise to what we termed a Unicorn Industry.
