ABSTRACT

Images are integral to our way of understanding the world and our way of communicating messages in the world. Rhetoric scholar Joddy Murray’s work on multimodal composition, image, and affect shows us how a brain functions through image and how images shape the brain. When people use images to communicate with others, technologies often play an integral role in writing these images and distributing them, too. If we think about social media, for example, images that are created with technology and distributed through technology can go viral, reaching millions of people. To be an effective writer of images, readers will need to think carefully about how to create images for particular audiences and for particular purposes. In this chapter, therefore, readers will learn about writing still, moving, and live images, whether for videos, performances, or presentations. And, they will learn specific strategies for working with different kinds of technologies in doing so.
